Skill Level: Advanced

The logistics sector underpins many sectors within the Scottish Economy as well as the Scottish Government’s priority sectors both nationally and locally, all of which rely on the movement and storage of goods to enable them to be efficient and effective. This ranges from moving and storing raw materials through to finished products in warehouses as well as into retail distribution centres and shops.  The Warehousing, Storage and Distribution route is also suitable for the food industries, including Bonded Warehouses.

This qualification is for Candidates working in the freight logistics sector.  Suitable roles for candidates undertaking the Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 6 include Supply Chain Officer, Team Leader, Assistant Transport Manager and Warehouse Team Leader.  They may be new to the sector or may already be in employment and are looking to further their career.  They will develop their skills and understanding in a range of areas such as:

• Monitoring the receipt, storage or dispatch of goods;
• Responding to problems in logistics operations;
• Promoting, monitoring and maintaining health, safety and security;
• Allocating work to team members;
• Monitoring the Progress and Quality of Work in your Area of Responsibility.

The mandatory units cover the importance of health, safety and security in the workplace and responding to problems in logistics operations. There are a wide range of optional units that can be selected to tailor the qualification to meet the needs of both the employer and employee:

• Check stock levels and stock records;
• Schedule logistic operations to meet customer requirements;
• Apply technology in logistics operations;
• Improve Performance of Logistics Operations;
• Minimise the environmental impact of logistics operations.

This qualification is part of the Modern Apprenticeship Programme therefore may be funded by SDS (Skills Development Scotland).
